The Flying Crank Ghost, designed by Doug Ferguson of Phantasmechanics, is one of my favorite props. It's not scary, it's not exciting,... This thing is just plain cool. Perhaps the best effect is its simplicity. Small children like it, and grown children keep waiting for it to "do something."  A true distraction prop, it puts people on edge, unprepared for the real scares that follow.

This handsome fellow is "Other Me," the Duct Tape Dummy, ( No, not the one in the hat...) I built him before
I learned about "Monster Mud." As a static prop, he's
kind - of boring, but once we gave him a home and a purpose, he surprised everyone that passed by. The end result of this construction project is pleasing,
and the trip to completion was hilarious.

Scrim is commonly used in theater and  stage applications.
It is basically sheer fabric. The trick here is in the lighting. Front lighting at a steep angle makes the fabric appear opaque. Back lighting makes it almost invisible. The possible uses for this old trick are seemingly endless.
